Pressure Washer hourly rate calculator
This free calculator works out the hourly rate a freelance pressure washer should charge, starting from the income you need — then converts it into the per-job prices clients actually book. The work is sold by the job and the property, never by the hour: the rate exists to check every quote before it leaves, so a big driveway at a small-driveway price cannot slip through. With the honest presets below it lands near $77 an hour, $618 for a full day: a standard driveway at about two and a half hours of labour prices near $192.50, and a full house wash at about five hours near $385.
The pricing reality for freelance pressure washers
Pressure washing is quoted by the property — a driveway, a house, a deck — but every property takes a different amount of the day. A short, open driveway might wash in under two hours; the same square metres wrapped around slopes, steps and garden furniture can take twice as long. The quote is fixed; the hours are not, and a season priced on hoped-for times quietly underpays every awkward property in it.
The working day also holds a lot that is not washing: driving to quote, loading and unloading the machine, setting up hoses, rinsing down, and the days the weather simply cancels. None of it appears on a client's invoice unless the rate puts it there.
The preset below starts billable time at 50%: washing bills, but quoting, travel, setup and weather days take the rest. The numbers are starting presets, not a survey: a $46,000 target income, $4,600 a year of expenses — the machine and its servicing, fuel, detergent, insurance and booking admin are the shape of it — and 50% billable time. The machine, fuel and water arrangements sit inside that expenses figure, not on top of the client's bill: most operators wash with the client's outdoor tap, agreed at booking, and if you carry your own water its cost belongs in expenses too. With those starting numbers the calculator lands near $77 an hour.

Costs pressure washers forget to put in the rate
- Machine wear and servicing. Pumps, seals, hoses and nozzles wear on a steady cycle, and a machine down in the busy season costs whole days, not just a repair bill.
- Quoting trips. Most jobs are quoted after a look at the property. Those visits are unpaid, and a wide round makes them a real share of the week.
- Setup and rinse-down. Hoses out, furniture moved, plants covered, everything rinsed and packed away — the washing is only the middle of the job.
- Weather days. Rain and frost cancel outdoor work at short notice. The rate has to carry a few lost days a season, because clients do not pay for them.
- Fuel and detergent. Both scale with the work but arrive as your bills, not the client's — they belong in the expenses figure, priced into every job.
How this calculator works
Start with the hours you can genuinely sell. Take 52 weeks, subtract your vacation weeks, multiply by your hours per week, then multiply by your billable percentage. With the pressure washer presets — four weeks off, 40 hours a week, 50% billable — that is 960 billable hours a year: the washing hours left once quoting, travel, setup and weather have taken theirs.
Next, work out what those hours must bring in. Add your desired income and your annual business expenses together — $50,600 on the presets — gross the total up for tax by dividing by one minus your tax rate — at a 25% estimate, divide by 0.75 to get $67,467 — then add your profit margin to reach $74,213 and divide by your billable hours. That final number, $77, is the rate below which the year stops adding up.
Now convert it into the units clients buy. A standard driveway at about two and a half hours of labour prices at $192.50. A deck at about two hours is $154. A full house wash at about five hours is $385. Quote the per-job price as the per-job price — but build it from these hours, so the awkward property up the hill pays like the work it is.
