Oven Cleaner Hourly Rate Calculator

This free calculator works out the hourly rate a self-employed oven cleaner should charge for their time, starting from the income you need, then builds the per-appliance prices clients actually pay out of the hours each oven honestly holds. Clients book a clean oven at one price — and the price ladder is printed on the appliance itself: a single oven, a double oven, a range cooker, each a bigger box of burnt-on hours than the last. Inside that price hides an hour structure they never see: the stripping of racks, panels and fan covers, the dip tank doing its slow work in the van, the scrubbing no chemical does for you, and the kitchen left cleaner than you found it. The honest complication is condition: a cooker cleaned every year and one opened for the first time in a decade are different jobs wearing the same name, and this page prices that difference out loud. With the honest presets below the rate lands near $55 an hour, $442 for a full day — and the work built from it: a single oven deep clean at about an hour and a half of labour, $83; a double oven at about two and a half hours, $138; a range cooker at about three and a half hours, $193 — with replacement seals and bulbs billed as their own lines, and the products already inside the rate’s expenses.

The pricing reality for oven cleaners

Oven cleaning is bought per appliance and quoted from the ladder — single, double, range — and earned on your knees: strip the appliance, set the removable parts in the dip tank, and work through what heat has baked on while the tank does the same for the racks. The ladder is honest about size and silent about condition, and condition is where the hours live: the regular client’s oven is a maintenance visit, the ten-year oven is an excavation, and a quote that prices them alike is a subsidy from the clean kitchens to the filthy ones. The honest quote keeps the ladder and prices the state of the appliance out loud at booking — first cleans carry a stated first-clean price.

It is a specialism inside the cleaning world, not a line of the general clean. A house cleaner sells the whole house by the visit or the hour; the oven cleaner sells one appliance, with a heated dip tank in the van, professional products a general clean never carries, and a per-appliance ladder instead of an hourly meter running in the client’s mind. The economics rhyme with the carpet cleaner’s — one surface, one machine, one honest ladder — and differ in the chemistry and the kneeling.

The numbers below are starting presets, not a survey: a $40,000 target income, $7,000 a year of expenses — vehicle and fuel leads, with cleaning products and consumables, the dip tank and its equipment, marketing, liability insurance, phone, booking and admin, the seals, bulbs and small parts float, and workwear and laundry — a 25% tax estimate, four weeks of vacation, a 40-hour week and 65% billable time. With those starting numbers the calculator lands near $55 an hour. The billable share is the round talking: ovens scattered across a town, gaps between appointments and the rebooking conversation all take time no invoice carries, and every clean pays for a slice of them.

Costs oven cleaners forget to put in the rate

  • The first clean. A cooker that has never been cleaned can take twice the ladder time — carbon comes off in layers, not minutes. The stated first-clean price is not a penalty; it is the difference between the job described and the job found.
  • Round density. Four ovens on one street are a different day from four ovens across a county. Fuel and road time are inside these expenses and the billable share — the round you build is the wage you get.
  • Tank time. The dip tank works while you scrub, but it still cycles: heating, soaking, the parts queue on a range-cooker day. Equipment that earns only while it is hot has its downtime priced like everything else.
  • Products the bad ovens eat. A maintenance clean sips degreaser; a ten-year range drinks it, along with blades, pads and gloves. Consumables are a real line in these expenses because the worst third of ovens use most of them.
  • The kitchen around the oven. Floors protected, surfaces wiped, the room left cleaner than you found it — the ten unlisted minutes per job that make the service recommendable are inside the hours, where they belong.
The maths

How this calculator works

Start with the hours you can genuinely sell. Take 52 weeks, subtract your vacation weeks, multiply by your hours per week, then multiply by your billable percentage. With the oven cleaner presets — four weeks off, 40 hours a week, 65% billable — that is 1,248 billable hours a year: the time at the appliance clients can pay for, once travel, tank cycles and rebooking have taken theirs.

Next, work out what those hours must bring in. Add your desired income and your annual business expenses together — $47,000 on the presets — gross the total up for tax by dividing by one minus your tax rate — at a 25% estimate, divide by 0.75 to get $62,667 — then add your profit margin to reach $68,933 and divide by your billable hours. That final number, $55, is the rate below which the year stops adding up.

Now translate the hour into the prices clients actually buy. The appliance is the quoted unit, and the ladder is built from hours: a single oven at about an hour and a half, $83 of labour; a double oven at about two and a half hours, $138; a range cooker at about three and a half hours, $193; a full day at $442. Replacement seals and bulbs arrive on the invoice as themselves; the products that do the work are already inside the rate’s expenses, because every oven uses them and no client should be itemised for chemistry. Quoted that way, the client can see what they are buying: the appliance back to metal and glass — and the too-cheap clean that rushes the tank time stops looking cheaper.

Questions

Oven Cleaner rate questions

It is a specialism the general clean does not carry. A house cleaner prices the whole home by the visit; an oven cleaner prices one appliance with a heated dip tank, professional degreasers and a per-appliance ladder — single, double, range. The skills overlap in the kitchen and nowhere else: nobody’s regular cleaner strips a fan cover or soaks racks in a van-mounted tank. That is why the trade has its own rate, and its own calculator.
Because it is a different amount of work wearing the same name. A cooker cleaned on a round arrives with a film; a cooker opened after years arrives with carbon in layers, and carbon sets the hours. The honest shape is the ladder for the appliance plus a stated first-clean price, agreed at booking from a photo or a description — never a surprise at the door. Repeat cleans on a cycle are how the price stays at the ladder’s honest rung.
The products themselves, yes — unlike parts, they are consumed on every job in predictable proportion, so they sit in the rate’s annual expenses, where this page puts them. What does not belong in the rate is the exception: a replacement door seal, a bulb, a knob the oven needs — those are the client’s appliance being put right, billed as their own lines and agreed before they are fitted.
